民国4年，袁世凯意图称帝，政局动荡是年秋，吴淞镇大火，灾民数以万计，本就鱼龙混杂的吴淞镇显得更为动荡不安。因地方善款筹集，吴淞镇重修居民，却在某宅架梁时出现意外，期间爆出一具男尸，其状诡异，引得镇上流言纷起，镇民惶恐，募资请僧道做法驱邪超度，期间亦有江湖术士混事，搅得镇上一派乌烟瘴气。镇保卫团团长陆悦戎行伍出身，最是不信神鬼之说，，见此情形不由大怒，一面下令驱散僧道术士，一面差人找来镇上义庄仵工吴云根、柳归元师徒，命其验尸查明死因，以正视听。镇上落魄乡绅少爷石乐志少年游历颇广，得知此案后便赶来查看，又见陆香邑在场，欲有所表现，当下一味指点评说，言语间对吴云根、柳归元师徒颇为不屑。吴云根对此不以为意，自顾检验死者身上的绿芽，神情颇为震惊，继而借故推托似有隐情，期间语焉不详。。SYNOPSIS Urgently called, the police inspector has arrived in a hotel, and didn't find any crime, but noticed some strangenesses occurring there. (Strugatsky Brothers website) NOTES This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems?
