樱花飘舞的季节，不善言辞的女孩市原由奈（福本莉子饰）和因家庭之故多次转学的山本朱里（滨边美波饰）成为好友。巧合的是，两个女孩还刚好住在同一栋公寓。因为和绘本上的王子十分相像，朱里没有血缘的弟弟理央（北村匠海饰）拨动了由奈的心弦。可是在和理央交流的过程中，由奈无奈地发现这个阳光男孩藏着一份不能轻易道出的情感爱恋。另一方面，由奈青梅竹马的好友乾和臣（赤楚卫二饰）对朱里产生了好感，只不过偶然目睹的一幕，令他只能尝试压抑心中的喜欢。春花烂漫，夏雨如注，男孩女孩无处安放的情感交织错乱…… 本片根据咲坂伊绪的同名漫画改编。。山田日後承認在開拍此片之前，已心諳渥美清的肺病步入末期，決定此章為最後一章，並安排由淺丘瑠璃子演的莉莉送寅次郎踏上人生的最後一程。分別15年後，兩人於如詩如畫的奄美大島重逢，感情依舊，鬥氣繼續，沒完沒了似的。正如山田所想，雖然系列必須完結，但始終不想為寅次郎的故事／人生劃上句號。結局如常開放，代表寅一直繼續他的旅程，日本人依然有夢。 公映後翌年，渥美清病逝，享年68歲，本片亦成為他的遺作。 Yamada knew before production began that Atsumi's health has deteriorated to such an extent that Tora-san to the Rescue would be the last film in the series.
